                        About Dr. Deirdré Combrink-Potter

The path to becoming a homeopath was a very personal one.  Growing up, I always had a keen interest in different forms of natural healing disciplines and a deep need to help others in one way or another.  I started my career focusing my studies and work in the areas of fitness, lifestyle, nutrition and therapeutic herbal and nutritional supplementation.  During my twenties I found myself struggling with various acute and chronic health problems which ultimately led me to experiencing the true healing potential of homeopathic medicine.  This experience ignited a deeper interest into the field of homeopathy and together with my search to further my studies in order to truly be of significant help to others, I decided to study homeopathic medicine.  I am currently studying psychology and working towards becoming a registered counsellor as so much of our work as homeopaths involve the mind and emotions.

Homeopathy as a profession is strictly regulated by the Allied Health Professions Council of South Africa and in order to register as a homeopathic doctor it is required to obtain a Master’s degree in homeopathy.  The program consists of a 5-year full-time theoretical and practical medical and scientific course in clinical and classical homeopathy, followed by a 6th year, during which an internship and Master’s level research dissertation is completed.  I obtained my Master’s Degree in Homeopathy from the Durban University of Technology (DUT) in 2020.

Homeopathic medicine treats both acute and chronic medical conditions and treatment is inclusive of, however, not limited to, functional, traumatic, infectious, genetic, neurological, degenerative and autoimmune related conditions/diseases.

Homeopathy is especially valuable in the treatment of chronic conditions as it is able to reduce the intensity and/or frequency of symptoms related to the condition resulting in a general improvement of quality of life.  Treating acute conditions can be very rewarding as results can be seen within a short period of time.

Homeopathy can also be of significant help in the treatment of grief, depression, anxiety and conditions such as attention deficit disorder (ADD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and various other adult and childhood behavioral disorders.

The true beauty of homeopathic medicine is that it focuses on the whole individual and not only on the disease or condition present.  Medicines are prescribed specifically to the individuality of each case.  This is done after, reviewing the patient case information form, careful and in-depth consultation, physical examinations (where necessary), laboratory tests and/or imaging (where necessary), focusing on the physical symptoms as well as the mental and emotional state of the individual.
